RESPECT & BOW PROCEDURE:Students are to remove their shoes before entering the gym and put them
in the appropriate place in the lobby. Upon entering the gym students bow,
first to the flags, then the Instructor, and finally to any Black belts in the
gym per rank in descending order. Bowing is also conducted at the beginning and
end of class to the flags and Black Belts as well as during class. It is done
as a sign of respect and thanks; it is similar to our handshake.
● Questions on technique should be directed to the instructor. ADDRESSING
INSTRUCTORS BY TITLE: The utmost respect will be shown to Master Instructors, Black Belt
instructors, other Black Belts and seniors. When in the gym any Black Belt in
uniform will be referred to as "master", "mister", "miss", "sir", or "ma' am" as
appropriate.
● Students will address Masters, Black Belts, instructors, higher ranks and
adults, as "Sir" or "Ma'am" before and at the end of a question or conversation
both in and out of the gym.
● Master instructors include Black Belts ranking fourth degree or higher
and will be referred to as "Master (last name)". Black belts will be referred to
as "Mister (name)" or "Miss (name)". Senior color belts will be referred to as
"Mister (first name)" or "Miss (first name)".
● Students are expected to be loyal and to never criticize the instructors,
Tae Kwon Do, or any of its functions, unless asked for constructive criticism.
All other commentary is considered destructive and will not be tolerated.
Criticism or concerns shall be addressed to the master or instructor in private
after class. Remember before offering criticism; ask a question to help better
understand before criticizing. SUBSTANCE
ABUSE: Drugs, alcohol, tobacco, fowl language, and any form of disruptive
behavior are not allowed or tolerated by students or visitors in the gym. Gum
and pop are also not allowed in the gym. MANNERS:A positive attitude is expected from all students during class. No other
attitude or behavior will be tolerated.
● The student is expected to adopt a learning attitude and is expected to
try learning something in every situation, looking for the positive, not
negative. This attitude is a quality of any good Tae Kwon Do student.
● Behavior outside the gym is also expected to be upstanding and exemplary.
Each student is a representative of the gym and the instructors. Each student
must remember this and serve as a good example for the gym in the community as
well as for junior students.
●Safety is very important while training as well as competing and must be
kept in mind at all times. No unauthorized sparring or practice before class
without instructor’s permission.
● Students are to maintain focus on their own training without becoming
preoccupied with what other students are doing.
● Keep the gym clean. This includes bathrooms and parking lot.
● Never leave the workout without the instructors permission (unless you
are ill).
● Never lean against the wall during class or promotion testing (unless you
are ill).
● When sitting during class or testing, sit with your legs crossed and
hands on your knees.
● Never stand with your hands on your hips or your arms crossed. It is
considered a challenge to the instructor.
● Never teach someone a technique the instructor has not shown them. You
may help a student on a technique they have already been shown.
● Please use designated parking area only. Do not park in other business
sections. TRAINING
